From Petroleum Engineering to Digital Media Leadership: The Unexpected Journey Behind Talentos Multiplus

Many people know Sofonie Dala as the founder of Talentos Multiplus, but few know the remarkable journey that led her to build a successful digital startup.

Sofonie began her professional path in a completely different field. She graduated as a Petroleum and Gas Engineer in Russia in 2015. At the time, she had little knowledge of digital marketing and no particular interest in the digital media industry.

Everything changed in 2019 when she was awarded a prestigious postgraduate scholarship in Media Management and Leadership for African Women, sponsored by the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA). This opportunity took her to South Africa, where she spent a year studying at Rhodes University and the Sol Plaatje Institute.

Determined to complement her academic knowledge with practical experience, Sofonie secured an internship at PHD Media in Cape Town during her studies. There, she deepened her understanding of media strategy, communications, and digital innovation while applying the theories she was learning in the classroom.

After completing her studies, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the lockdown, what seemed like a global crisis became an opportunity for innovation. Inspired by the growing digital transformation taking place worldwide, Sofonie conceived the idea of launching Talentos Multiplus, a digital startup dedicated to empowering talent and creating new opportunities through technology and media.

At the same time, she began working as an independent journalist and researcher, producing work that gained international recognition and visibility. Her ability to combine technical expertise, media leadership, research, and entrepreneurship helped her establish a unique voice in the global digital landscape.

Today, Sofonie Dala's story is a testament to the power of reinvention, lifelong learning, and the courage to embrace new opportunities. From engineering oil and gas systems to building digital platforms and leading impactful media initiatives, her journey proves that success often begins where comfort zones end.
