With a deep-rooted connection to Angola, Sofonie brings lived experience from one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions—marked by droughts, floods, plastic pollution, deforestation, poverty, and inequality. Her journey from grassroots action to global advocacy reflects a powerful personal mission: to amplify marginalized voices and build inclusive, climate-resilient futures through education, storytelling, and environmental justice.

Sofonie has volunteered for eight months with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) in the UK, where she contributes to nature conservation, biodiversity restoration, and public engagement in green spaces. This hands-on experience in community-centered environmental work reinforces her understanding of how local action connects to national and global policy.

Her work addresses multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals and includes campaigns such as â€śLadies Without Plastic”—empowering women with sustainable menstrual solutions—and documentary storytelling for climate platforms like the Youth Climate Report for COP29. She also champions indigenous voices, notably those of Angola’s Mumuila tribe, and supports educational equity through the Africa Educates Her campaign.

Now engaging in the course â€śKey Essentials: The Wealth Economy, Sustainable Development and the Law,” Sofonie seeks to deepen her understanding of how legal frameworks and economic systems must evolve to include natural, social, and human capital. She believes redefining wealth is essential to achieving true sustainability and justice.

“I am here to challenge systems, connect people, and co-create solutions that prioritize dignity, equity, and the planet. Sustainability must be lived—not just legislated.”

Sofonie Dala holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Media Management and Leadership from the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership at Rhodes University, South Africa, where she gained expertise in media strategy, organizational leadership, and communication for development. She also earned a Master’s-level Engineering Degree in Petroleum and Gas Geology from Ufa State Petroleum Technological University in Russia, where she studied from 2010 to 2015. This intensive five-year program awarded her the title of Mining Engineer–Specialist, recognized as a Level 7 qualification under the EU framework, equivalent to a master’s degree. In 2024, she left Angola to  pursue an MSc in Environmental Sustainability Education and Communication at the University of York in the United Kingdom, supported by the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.

An interesting fact about her academic path: you will never see Sofonie with a bachelor's diploma. Her first university followed an advanced academic structure that combines undergraduate and postgraduate levels due to its rigorous study duration, academic intensity, curriculum depth and extended number of study hours. This multidisciplinary academic foundation—spanning engineering, media leadership, and sustainability—equips her to lead bold and innovative solutions to environmental and social challenges both locally and globally. Her educational path reflects her deep dedication to multidisciplinary learning, combining science, leadership, and sustainability to drive impactful change across Africa and beyond.
