Seeds of Struggle, Harvests of Hope: The Sofonie Dala Mission
Sofonie Dala’s Mission Visit to Angola
Our CEO, Sofonie Dala, has been scheduled for a long-term mission in Europe. Yet, 2025 marks her first site visit back to Angola, as we prepare to celebrate two major milestones: the 5th anniversary of the “Africa Educates Her” campaign this September and the 5th anniversary of our startup, Talentos Multiplus, marked last July.
It has been five years of tireless dedication, with Sofonie walking from community to community, day and night, empowering women, youth, and local entrepreneurs. On her arrival this time, she dedicated her first days to quietly observing the daily life of women in her community, listening to their struggles and triumphs.
Though poverty speaks louder, these women carry stories of strength, creativity, and resilience that inspire hope.
Take for example Madam Henriquetta, a determined street food trader. This cold season has been a blessing for her business—her products sell out fast, enabling her to reinvest quickly. She buys fresh vegetables, green and mature tomatoes from local small farmers and has built a loyal base of constant customers.
Her clients include small street and indoor restaurants, neighbors, and surrounding communities. Remarkably, many customers bring money in advance to her house, ensuring she always has capital to keep her trade moving.
Then there is Madam Doroteia, who strategically created a business to overcome hunger in her household and to build independence rather than depend solely on her husband and sons.
She runs a small indoor restaurant serving her neighborhood. Without spending on marketing, she attracts a steady flow of clients—because in Angola, hunger is its own advertisement. Word of mouth spreads, and her kitchen remains busy.
Beyond cooking, Madam Doroteia is also a backyard poultry keeper, raising chickens and quail (cordorniz). She takes special care in feeding them, especially as December approaches.
Her home is often filled with customers during Christmas and New Year celebrations, when the demand for eggs skyrockets. At Easter, quail eggs—with their beautiful speckled shells and rich nutritional value—become especially prized.
During her stay, Sofonie has also been immersing herself in the tastes of Angolan cuisine:
Sunday, 24 August – She enjoyed mufete, a traditional plate of roasted cassava flour, grilled fish, palm oil beans, and salad.
Monday, 25 August – She had cassava pap with black beans, fried chicken, and sauce.
Tuesday – Rice and beans, fried fish, and kissangua, a refreshing Angolan juice made of corn bran.
Wednesday – Grilled and fried cassava, plantain (banana pão), and roasted peanuts—the country’s healthiest street food.
Thursday – Grilled hickory chicken.
Friday – Another traditional Angolan dish, accompanied once again by kissangua.
Conclusion
This journey is not just about celebrating anniversaries—it is about laying bricks for the future.
We see SDG 1 (No Poverty) in every woman who turns scarcity into opportunity.
We see SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) in every meal Doroteia serves.
We see SDG 5 (Gender Equality) in women who break free from dependency.
We see SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) in backyard poultry farms and street vending stalls.
We see SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) in communities that buy and sell locally, reducing waste and fostering circular economies.
Investors should recognize this: with small seeds of support, we are cultivating forests of impact.
Competitors should take note: where others see struggle, we see strategy; where others see poverty, we see power.
The next five years will not just be about survival—it will be about scaling this model of resilience into a continental revolution.
Through her mission, Sofonie continues to highlight the resilience of Angolan women, the beauty of community-centered entrepreneurship, and the richness of local food culture—all while preparing to mark this historic 5-year journey of impact.
