Talks with Sofonie Dala: What specific strategies have you found most effective in encouraging men to engage in gender sensitivity training and mentorship initiatives within the workplace?

 Our CEO will respond

1. What key lessons have you learned about encouraging men to engage in gender sensitivity training and mentorship initiatives within the workplace?

One of my most important learnings in advancing gender equality has been the necessity of continuous learning. Gender equality goes beyond simply ensuring that men and women have similar qualifications and pay; it is about creating an environment where women feel emotionally comfortable and empowered, just as men do.

I’ve observed that men often operate from a place of perceived superiority, which can lead to behaviors that undermine, manipulate, or take advantage of their female colleagues. Therefore, it is vital to implement ongoing gender-sensitive training to raise awareness and foster compassion and understanding in the workplace.

2. How do you measure the success of feedback mechanisms created for women to express their concerns, and what steps do you take to ensure their voices lead to meaningful changes?

Our strategies that have worked best include:

1. Training Programs: Regular workshops focused on gender sensitivity and empathy have helped to cultivate a more inclusive culture.

2. Mentorship Initiatives: Establishing mentorship programs where women can receive guidance and support from both male and female leaders has empowered female employees and given them a stronger voice.

3. Feedback Mechanisms: Creating safe spaces for women to express their concerns and experiences has allowed us to address issues promptly and effectively.

By prioritizing these approaches, we can foster a workplace that values and uplifts every individual, advancing gender equality meaningfully and sustainably.
